Councillor Dean Fitzpatrick is the new mayor of Stockport. He was elected at borough’s the first ‘virtual annual council meeting.
Joanne Fitzpatrick will be the mayoress. Reverend Will Rubie, congregation minister at S. Martin’s Church, Heaton Norris, will act as the mayor’s chaplain and the mayor’s charity for the year will be Beacon Counselling in Stockport.
Councillor Chris Gordon was appointed deputy mayor and Dr Margaret Gordon will be the deputy mayoress.
The new first citizen said: “I'm honoured to be mayor of Stockport for the coming year. I come from a long line of Stopfordians, so this is a really proud moment for generations of my family.
“There's a lot of uncertainty around at the moment and this is creating problems for a lot of people. That's why I’m especially delighted that Beacon Counselling - who support people suffering mental and emotional distress - have kindly agreed to be the mayor’s charity for the year.
“Stockport is an amazing place to live, work, learn and socialise. And we can see this in the way people are looking out for each other at this really difficult time.
“Hopefully we'll soon find a new safe way of living, and I'll get the chance to meet and say thank you to some of the amazing people who are proving why Stockport is the best town in the world.”
