STOCKPORT’S Christian Iddon believes he has the chance of securing a Bennetts British Superbike Showdown spot after cutting the gap to sixth place by 11 points at Cadwell Park.
Iddon brought home 23 points from the two races in Lincolnshire. He said: “It’s going to be tight, but we have three races at Oulton Park, so plenty of points up for grabs. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
In the previous round Iddon experienced a frustrating weekend as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship travelled to Thruxton in Hampshire.
A great start to race one, in front of the massive crowd, saw Iddon well up the order, and challenging for the lead for a long period.
However, as his tyre wear dropped off a cliff, the former Supermoto Champion struggled to keep up the pace, dropping back and finally finishing in 17th.
Race two was twice interrupted, firstly for rain, and then following an accident, the resulting race to the flag turning in to an eight-lap dash.
Taking the restart in eighth, Christian pushed hard from the off, running as high as fifth place overall, eventually settling for sixth as the chequered flag fell.
He said: “It’s been a difficult weekend for my showdown prospects, more frustrating given the fact that I genuinely believe that we could have battled out at the front.”
