Netball team wins National Cup Final

STOCKPORT Grammar School’s Under 13 netball squad had cause for celebration after winning the Smile Independent Schools National Cup Final.
The girls beat Redmaids’ High School 26-25 following an exhilarating and tense match at Redbridge Sports Centre in Essex.
Along the way, the girls have enjoyed some thrilling victories including a 28-27 home win against St Catherine’s School in the semi-final. In the first round, they beat The Grammar School at Leeds 28-21 and this was followed by a 27-26 victory over Haileybury School which secured their place in the quarter final. A massive 39-12 away victory over Emanuel School saw the girls sail through to the semis.
As well as their trophy and medals, the team won a three-day netball tour from event organisers Smile Group Travel.
Special congratulations go to captain Libby Bowden, who was praised for her exceptional leadership, and Freya Noble, who was crowned Most Valuable Player. The team was completed by Libby Goodman, Sage Jeffries, Darcy Breen, Libby Porter, Anna Wilkinson, Chloe Olajide, Rosie Lear, Aimee Reynolds and Annalisa Griffiths.
Head of Netball Mrs Laura Goddard said: “The final was a fantastic performance. All 11 players took to the court, which shows how much depth and ability this squad has. They thoroughly deserve this title.
“They led the final for most of the match and in the last quarter, when the game was close, they kept their composure, showing maturity and determination to take the win in a nail biting last two minutes. We are all very proud of the players. Their hard work in training all season has certainly paid off.”
The school’s netballers also won the Under 13 Stockport Schools Tournament and the Under 12 County Netball Tournament.
